Owner Spotlight: Mohamed Khalid Kala

Hi, I'm Mohamed. Proud owner of Kala Law Firm Professional Corporation.

The part of my work which I find most enjoyable is interacting with my clients.

I started my own business so I could provide affordable, quality legal services to people who are under-serviced and unrepresented.

I was born and raised in Mississauga, Ontario.

I have been operating my general practice law firm for three years. We have a broad focus, but practice mostly in real estate law, wills and estates and Probate.

On a typical day, I go to the office for ten in the morning. First, I check and answer all my phone calls, emails and tend to written correspondence. Then depending on days where I have closings, I close real estate transactions and handle other files. I’m usually in the office, on average, for 20 hours a week.

Among the most important decisions, I face daily are: how much money I should devote to marketing, and also whether the business has grown to the point where it’s time for me to add support staff. The three top skills I rely on to perform my job are patience, logic and thorough knowledge of the law.

I attribute my success so far to hard work and being honest. As a hard and fast principle; whatever price I quote to my client - I ensure I deliver quality service and sound legal advice.

The most satisfying moment for me was opening my own law practice shortly after law school. It has been an invaluable lesson as I have learned the a to z of running a business.

Richard Branson of the Virgin group has had a huge impact on my leadership style. There is much to learn from his business history and exploits. He has many famous quotes, including: “Do not be embarrassed by your failures, learn from them and start again.” I rely on heavily on this quote as I work to grow my business and increase my client base.

In the modern business world, a company which I admire is Google. There are numerous other search engines out there, however, Google is the one that everybody remembers.

When I’m away from work, I spend quality time being a dad to my five-year-old son. For leisure and for fitness, I take part in my favourite recreational sports which include playing softball and indoor volleyball.

I believe in giving back and contributing to my community. I donate funds to various grassroots sports programs. I'm passionate about creating opportunities for children and youth to have access to exercise and physical activity.

The values to which I subscribe to in my personal and professional behaviours are to be honest and ethical.

I have enjoyed sharing my story about the things which matter to me and how they influence the way I do business.
